Hamburg Steinway & Sons Upright Model N Year 1883

An early upright piano built in the Hamburg Steinway & Sons factory, only three years after its establishment. The Model N features 85 keys, a classic Victorian cabinet, and an early overstrung scale design that gives it a warm, deep, and romantic tone — with the characteristic singing voice of 19th-century Steinways.

The instrument was delivered to its first owner, the Hug dealership in Zurich, Switzerland, on June 2nd, 1883.

Interesting fact: The Model N was among the very first upright pianos produced in Steinway’s newly opened Hamburg factory. Before later models such as the K and V were introduced, the N formed the foundation of Steinway’s upright range in Europe.

The Canadian Maple 5-ply Pinblock from Bolduc (Canada) was fitted.
New Louis Renner hammers and damper felts from Germany were installed, and the key sides were veneered for an elegant finish.
